What are eyelash extensions?
Lash Extensions, introduced to the United States about 10 years ago, are single strands of synthetic eyelashes that are curved to replicate the look of our natural eyelash. A certified lash specialist applies a synthetic lash to each individual healthy natural eyelash one strand at a time for a beautiful and luscious look. Eyelash Extensions are perfect for special occasions and have become very popular for day to day wear.
Are there any restrictions when wearing eyelash extensions?
No. You are able to swim, shower, exercise, and maintain your regular daily routines without interruptions. We do ask that you don’t pull, tug, or pick at your lashes as this could cause premature shedding of your natural lash.
How long will a full set of eyelash extensions last?
Your full set of lashes should last 2-3 weeks. Aftercare of your extensions is vital to their longevity. You are counseled by your lash specialist immediately following your appointment and you’re sent home with an aftercare kit and instructions. Coming soon to our website is a section dedicated to aftercare using videos as the instructional component.
How long will it take to apply eyelash extensions and how is it done?
The application process for lash extensions normally takes anywhere from 45 min. – 1.5 hours with someone who is an experienced lash specialist. If you go to a newly certified professional it may take up to 3 hours. You will lay comfortably on a massage or facial table with your eyes closed. The Eyelash Specialist will then apply an under eye gel pad to cover your lower lashes. Then your extensions are applied 0.5-1mm away from your eyelid using a medical-grade adhesive specifically blended for eyelash extensions and safe for use around the eye area. Each extension is attached to one of your single natural lash. This procedure allows each natural lash to grow on its own growth cycle. We attach the extension to your natural eyelash hair only, NEVER to your skin. We will double-check our application to ensure each extension is adhered to one, single natural eyelash.
How often should I get fill-ins?
We recommend getting an infill every 2 weeks, 3 at the most. If you wait too long your eyelash extensions will fall out and you will require a full set. Your natural eyelashes shed every 45 – 60 days due to your natural growth cycle. Once your eyelash sheds, it is replaced by a new one. An infill is needed to fill in any lashes that have fallen out.
What are your different type of eyelash extension sets?
We have 3 different eyelash extension sets because we realize that everyone may have varying preferences when it comes to how they want their eyelash extension designed.
Our full-sets intensifies and adorns 95% of your natural lashes and is the best option for those who desire maximum fullness.
Our mini-sets intensifies and adorn 75% of your natural lashes.
Our half-sets intensifies and adorns 50% of your natural lashes and is the best option for those who want softer looks.
How do I prepare for my appointment?
Great question! We ask that your lashes are clean and free from all make-up residue PRIOR to your appointment. Your eyelash extensions, to ensure better adhesion, should never be applied to lashes that have not been cleaned. Coming to your appointment with clean lashes cuts down on the time spent doing so by your lash specialist. We still use oil free make up remover to give your lashes additional cleaning prior to your procedure starting as we have to satisfy our insurance agreement. Also, we ask that you remove contacts if you wear them.
A pair of headphones is also recommended as clients often fall asleep during their lash procedure. Headphones help our clients to relax without “jumping” out of sleep during the procedure. This helps us to ensure an uninterrupted service and it gives you an opportunity for uninterrupted relaxation!
Are eyelash extensions FDA approved? Are they safe?
Currently the FDA is not regulating eyelash extensions because the eyelash extensions are applied to the natural eyelash hairs and do NOT touch the skin. The application process is pain-free and relaxing that most clients fall asleep during the procedure. However, improper application by an unqualified eyelash technician can cause damage to your natural lashes. We recommend only using a Certified Eyelash Extension Specialist. Our specialists have been rigorously trained and have successfully completed a comprehensive lash course. Our specialist also participate regularly in continued training and education in order to stay current with industry standards, changes, and innovations.
What is the difference in your natural and BOLD lash designs?
All of our Wiinks eyelash extension designs have the option of going BOLD. The BOLD option gives you a wider, thicker eyelash extension which creates a fuller lash design look. Because the thicker eyelash extension is heavier than those used in the natural design option, your lash stylist will examine your natural lashes to ensure they are strong and healthy enough to sustain the heavier lash.
Why is there a different price for lashes done by a Master Lash Stylist and a Junior Lash Stylist.
It all comes down to experience and speed. Our Junior Lash Stylist are still perfecting their lashing craft and may require more time to complete your gorgeous lash design. Our Master Lash Stylist have been doing lashes longer and have faster speed and skill in lashing. We all, however, strive to give you the best lash experience you have ever had!
